Lighthouse Picnics

Gourmet picnic - Ferryland, Newfoundland, Canada

(Ferryland, Canada) • One of the best dining experiences in Canada. This is by far my favorite and dear place in Newfoundland. If you are there on a sunny day it will be a day you will never forget, it’s absolutely fantastic. The views, the food, the service and just being there taking it all in…. and if it happens to be iceberg or whale watching season it’s magical! Put this on your bucket list, you will not be disappointed. I’ve been there a few times when I lived in Newfoundland and will go back again whenever I go visit The Rock.

Ambiance: There is a bit of a hike to the lighthouse but it’s a lovely walk. Bring your windbreaker since it’s very windy unless you are lucky to go on a sunny day. The decor inside the lighthouse includes display with photos and crafts showcasing the history of the place. I also like that you can go to the second level and the kitchen is open for anyone to see.
Service: Outstanding! You need to make a reservation as they fill up fast. When you get there, you go inside the lighthouse to order and they will give you a blanket, a flag with a number and ask you to sit somewhere around the lighthouse outside and they will bring the food to you when it’s ready. The staff are super pleasant and informative. Each picnic includes a sandwich, salad, dessert and lemonade. When you are done, you bring back the basket with the dishes.
Cleanliness: The jars, utensils and blanket looked clean.
Food wait time: Even though the place was full, we didn’t wait long for our basket to arrive.
Food presentation: The food comes in a picnic basket and it’s adorable!
Portion: Regular size for the sandwiches but large portions for the desserts.
Taste: We had all the options on the menu (3); I tried my husband’s and my mother-in-law’s food and I was impressed by how delicious they all were! The sandwiches were delicious and desserts are amazing. The lemonades were fresh, not too sweet and served in a mason jar (super cute!); to be honest, the lemonades alone are worth the visit.
Price: On the high side. But worth it for the spectacular experience.
