(Ottawa, Canada) • Authentic and superb Salvadorian food that once you tried you will be coming back over and over again. It was our first time having Salvadorian food and it was fantastic.
Ambiance: There is a Latin store right next to it sharing the entrance with the restaurant. The restaurant is quite large with a few booths and tables, large windows, a TV and a bar area. The decoration can be a bit busy looking but it makes the place unique.
Service: We were seated right away and the waitress came to bring the menu and take our order for drinks. She spoke very limited English and I can see how a language barrier could pose an issue. I speak Spanish and she talked to me to get everyone’s order on my table. She was very friendly, helpful and pleasant to talk to. She came in to check on us when we got our orders, refilled our drinks and was fast bring the bill after. They only accepted cash or debit.
Cleanliness: Our plates, utensils, glasses, chairs and table were clean.
Food wait time: It was slow even though the restaurant was almost empty. We waited quite a long time from when we placed the orders to when the food arrived.
Food presentation: Very well displayed and appetizing.
Portion: Plates are big!
Taste: Outstanding! The pupusas are out of this world. They are unique and delicious. We tried one of each and we loved them all. We loved the fried plantains, re-fried beans, rice and beans and beans. I had pupusas revueltas (pork, beans and cheese) and the cheese and beans ones; I also had el casamiento (rice and re-fried beans) that could have a been a little hotter but it was still great. My friend a tamal with her order and she was very impressed. My husband loved the El Cabañazo (Steak & spicy chorizo sausage with casamiento – rice and beens-, cheese & chimol – salad). He also was amazed by the huge jar of curtido (coleslaw and hot sauce) that comes with the food
